Cincinnati, Ohio
- Cincinnati was founded in 1788 by John Cleves Symmes and Colonel Robert Patterson.
- The first major inland city in the country, it is sometimes thought of as the first purely American city.
- Cincinnati is home to two major sports teams, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals, and it sponsors annual events such as the Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament, the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival, and the Thanksgiving Day race.
- Cincinnati is known for its large collection of historic architecture. Over-the-Rhine, a neighborhood just to the north of Downtown Cincinnati, boasts among the world’s largest collections of Italianate architecture, rivaling similar neighborhoods in New York City,Vienna and Munich in size and scope.
From Wikipedia:
Over-the-Rhine has been praised for its collection of historic architecture. The New York Times described the neighborhood as having “a scale and grace reminiscent of Greenwich Village in New York.” Most of Over-the-Rhine’s ornate brick buildings were built by German immigrants from 1865 to the 1880s

This Cincinnati Enquirer slideshow chronicling that neighborhood’s evolution in the ten years following the Cincinnati Riots reveals just how much Over-the-Rhine — and the city itself — has changed.
